The past cont. tense /
[ was , were + v + ing ]
يستخدم للتعبير عن حدث كان مستمرا فى وقت معين فى الماضى " ماضى مستمر " عندما حدث فعل اخر " ماضى بسيط " أو فعلان يحدثان فى وقت واحد . * My brother was talking on the phone when I arrived .
* While he was reading , she was watching TV .
As / While + past cont . + past simple .* While he was watching TV , the light went out .
When + past simple + past cont . * When their father arrived , they were studying their lessons .
The present perfect / have / has + p. p. يعبر عن حدث بدأ فى الماضى ولم ينتهى أو انتهى وأثره لايزال موجود .
* He has worked in this factory since his childhood .
* She has cleaned the office .
The words which refer to the tense / just / already / ever / never / yet /
since / for . **
Since + Past Simple + Present Perfect .* He hasn’t spoken to her since he left the house .
** I haven’t seen him since [ 1990 / 7 o’clock / yesterday / last { Sunday , month , year } / his illness / then ] .
** I haven’t seen him for [ 14 years / 3 hours / a long time / the last year / ages / centuries / … ] .
The Present Perfect Cont . / have / has + been + v + ing .يعبر عن حدث بدأ فى الماضى ولايزال مستمرا فى الوقت الحاضر وربما يستمر فى المستقبل مع هذه الكلمات
Since / for / all the time / for …. now .* He has been teaching in this school for seven years now.
* I have been reading all the morning .
* I have been waiting for you for five hours now .
